Impact of Covid-19 on RISQS Operations

Like many other organisations we recognise that the outbreak of the Covid-19 (“Coronavirus”) pandemic is having an impact on day-to-day life, and this includes the way the RISQS scheme works.

Our priority is to ensure our staff stay safe and healthy but also to continue to provide the services you need from our teams.

The portal remains available 24/7 for users searching for suppliers and for companies to update their profiles.

Audits are still taking place as scheduled but are now taking place online.

A positive note during this Covid-19 outbreak…

During the month of March, RISQS experienced a significant rise in the number of online assessments submitted - over three times the monthly average. A large majority of assessments were undertaken in the week commencing 23 March when the Government announced stricter restrictions on travel and gatherings due to the current Covid-19 outbreak.

A total of 11,294 assessments were completed in March - this number has exceeded all expectations and proves that remote audits are popular with RISQS members.

RISQS also received almost two times the normal average number of phone calls. For organisations trying to get through on the phone line, it’s recommended that the option to leave a message is selected – a member from the team will be in contact as soon as possible.

A message from Network Rail

Read below an urgent message from Clive Berrington, Network Rail’s Commercial and Procurement Director.


Dear Colleagues,

In line with the PPN 02/20 released by the Cabinet Office on 20 March 2020 (attached for reference), Network Rail has considered how we can further support our supply chain.

 Our first step was to amend our payment terms for all suppliers, to ensure supplier payments are made immediately upon approval. Further to this, we have now produced the attached guidance document – ‘Supplier Protected Payment Process’.

This document details the support that is available from Network Rail and the process by which suppliers can apply for any relief required.

Having referred to the above guidance document, if you do need to request relief, please email details of your requirements to All requests will be allocated to a dedicated business lead to evaluate and take forward as applicable.

Join our Buyer Consultation Group

As a buyer member within the RISQS scheme, did you know that you or someone else from your organisation is entitled to participate in the Buyer Consultation Group? We are on the lookout for Assurance, Procurement, Compliance experts to get involved.

We need to hear from buyers, to ensure that the RISQS scheme continues to deliver what the buying community needs. The requirements of being a member of the Buyer’s consultation group are roughly quarterly meetings held in London every year (although the group is meeting remotely for the foreseeable future).

Court of Appeal outcome 

The Court of Appeal passed down its judgement on the competition case on 5 March. It’s important to emphasise that buyers can still specify RISQS on their immediate suppliers. Network Rail and Transport for London have both said they will continue to specify RISQS where relevant. For more information, please have a look at the Q&A on our website here:


RSSB Supply Chain Assurance Conference 2020 – postponed

Due to the exceptional and fast changing circumstances caused by the current Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions on movement and activities imposed by the government, we have postponed the RSSB Supply Chain Assurance Conference until 2021.
