Railway Industry Commodity Classification List (RICCL)
RICCL is the standardised way the rail industry classifies the products, services, and materials used across the network.
It provides a common language for buyers and suppliers, helping ensure that requirements are clear, consistent, and aligned across procurement and supplier assurance activities.
RICCL is a structured list of all commodities used to support GB rail operations – from infrastructure and rolling stock to services and consultancy.
Each entry is assigned a unique code, designed to:
- Clearly define what is being supplied
- Support procurement and supplier selection
- Indicate the level of assurance required (e.g. verification, audit or third-party assessment)
Suppliers select the RICCL codes that match the products and services they offer, making it easier for buyers to identify suitable, assured suppliers through RISQS.
