Third-party certification requirements for safety-critical suppliers
18/09/2026
The Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) has published an industry update regarding third-party certification requirements for certain safety-critical products and services supplied to the GB rail industry.
The review aims to help buyers and suppliers better understand where additional third-party certification may be required for safety-critical activities and products, and how this aligns with industry expectations and assurance requirements.
What suppliers need to know
Suppliers are encouraged to review the RSSB update to understand:
- whether any of their RICCL codes may be affected
- when third-party certification may be required
- the difference between verified and witnessed assurance status
- the options available where suitable certification is not currently in place.
- what the changes could mean for future procurement and assurance activities.
