We’re attending Marketplace Live events across the UK this year. Paul Haynes, Assistant Scheme Manager, will be on hand to discuss RISQS and supplier accreditation. We have already completed Cardiff, London, Glasgow, and Leeds and look forward to joining events after the summer holidays in London, Bristol, and Manchester.

P13-P2 top 3 non-conformance themes

We’re continuing to share learnings from recent audit activity.

Major non‑conformance themes:

  • Failure to effectively close out previous non-conformances (CORS 8.1)
  • Inadequate definition and communication of roles and responsibilities (CORS 1.1)
  • Inadequate control of legal and standards compliance requirements (CORS 2.2).

These findings indicate governance and assurance weaknesses where controls could not be proven as working in practice.

Minor non‑conformance themes:

  • Occupational health and wellbeing arrangements not fully implemented (CORS 7.1)
  • Incomplete implementation and testing of business continuity arrangements (CORS 2.7)
  • Supplier assurance and monitoring processes inconsistently applied (CORS 3.1).

These issues are minor—but they can escalate if not addressed promptly. Early and proactive close‑out is key to maintain assurance and avoid similar major findings in the future.

One year on: Key updates to the RISQS two-stage audit process

One year after RISQS introduced the two-stage audit process, updates have been made to make the process clearer, more consistent, and easier to follow. Key improvements include:

  • Clearer review steps for Stage 1 assessments
  • More consistent expectations for Stage 2 audits
  • Improved guidance and communication throughout the process
  • A more streamlined experience to help reduce delays and support suppliers in demonstrating compliance.

New classification codes introduced following RICCL update

The latest update to the Rail Industry Commodity Classification List (RICCL) introduces new classification codes and updated qualification requirements to reflect changing industry needs.      Key changes include:

  • New codes for fuel cleaning systems, EV charging units, and solar panels
  • Assurance covering design, installation, and commissioning for relevant new categories
  • A dedicated code for On-Track Machines
  • Introduction of the Plant Product Acceptance qualification
  • An update to the Rail Training Assurance Scheme qualification, now renamed the RTAS Assured Provider.

Suppliers should review their current classifications and update them where required, including selecting the new On-Track Machines code where applicable.

We are currently reviewing the changes introduced through the latest RICCL update and will make any necessary updates to the RISQS portal. We will notify suppliers once these changes are available and provide further information where required.

Faster document uploads now available on RISQS

RISQS has introduced a new enhancement for document uploads, in response to supplier feedback. This means suppliers can now:

  • Upload multiple documents at once against their requirements
  • Avoid submitting files individually
  • Prepare pre-audit submissions more quickly and efficiently
  • Benefit from a smoother process, shaped by user feedback.
